Copenhagen, Denmark (24 January, 2022)

Danish fintech Matter, today launched a new digital platform for sustainability analysis. The platform allows investors to analyse the sustainability of portfolios of listed assets across a range of sustainability themes and metrics in a matter of seconds. In contrast to existing practices in the market for ESG and sustainability data, Matter’s platform connects investors to insights from leading, independent expert sources around the world, rather than Matter’s own analyses.

The launch of the Platform forms part of Matter’s commitment to make sustainability analytics simple, flexible, and transparent. By utilising a platform model, Matter’s portfolio analysis tool forgoes the need for complex integrations by allowing investors to login, upload a portfolio(s), select a benchmark(s) to compare against, and generate an analysis.

Emil Stigsgaard Fuglsang, co-founder and COO of Matter comments: “The Platform represents an important landmark in Matter’s development, moving from static reports to an interactive, customisable interface. This allows investors to better understand the nuances in the sustainability profile of their portfolio, compared to existing solutions in the ESG space.”

Fuglsang continues: “Over the past years, research has unveiled serious issues with how ESG data, analysis and reporting is structured. Our platform does not turn the sustainability profile of issuers into a rating. Instead we offer more nuances, and more transparency into where the data is coming from.”

The Platform utilises granular sustainability data from Matter’s partners to present investors with unparalleled transparency and depth of insights. Fuglsang explains: “With Matter’s Platform, investors can gain access to the collective wisdom of leading institutions in the ESG space, including NGOs, think tanks and specialised sustainability data providers. We believe our clients have a right to know where their data is coming from, and what they are basing their decisions upon.”

The detailed nature of the data means that the Platform is suitable for investors at all stages of their sustainability journey, from those needing to comply with new regulations such as SFDR, to those exploring opportunities of generating positive environmental and social impact with their investments. Easy reporting and integration functions also make the Platform ideal for communicating sustainability insights post-trade.

Emil Fuglsang explains that “sustainable finance is growing in popularity, and so are the use cases and number of institutions looking for solutions in this space. Matter has designed our Platform to support client’s needs across the investment value chain, and grow with the introduction of new regulatory frameworks, and the emergence of new data and applications. Finally, the ease of use and flexibility of the platform does not come at the cost of the quality of the available data.”
